Using public transportation shouldn't cause you fear. Travel confidently with these easy tips.

Riding the bus

Try to sit next to the driver. If possible, avoid sitting next to rear doors. Consider exiting near lighted areas and try to avoid dark bus stops, if possible. Let a trusted friend or relative know the bus number and/or route you are taking.

Using a Taxi/Uber

Be careful to check credentials of driver. If taxi, name badge should be displayed. If it is an Uber, make sure you have the vehicle that was assigned to you. It is strongly encouraged to have a friend or relative on the phone with you to hear you are safe. Have GPS turned on, on your phone (I use Live360). Have the GPS live on your phone or have an idea of the time it should take to get to your destination. Share any and all information about your ride possible (cab #, driver’s ID, license plate #, pick up/drop off locations with a trusted party).
